We didn't make it to the game but the women's team at our alma mater apparently did a bang-up job last night:
Portland had to fight to get chances as well against a team that was allowing 0.94 goals per game. But when Portland forward Kendra Chandhoke launched a missile from about five yards outside the penalty box, it looked like it might be Portland's night. The shot whistled past the outstretched hands of a leaping Toreros goalkeeper Courtney Parsons and barely under the cross bar of the goal to give Portland a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
Portland added a second goal in the 38th minute when Danielle Foxhoven delivered a corner kick that Chandhoke deflected with her chest and was kicked in from six yards by Sophie Schmidt to make the score 2-0.
"We were goal dangerous," Smith said. "We were creating very, very well."
The Pilots ran their winning streak to 12 games, outscoring their opponents 49-2 over that stretch.
Lets hope they are given the opportunity to host a few tournament games at home. And, we may be writing Santa for '10-'11 season tickets. Hint, hint...
