We're breaking ground on what may forever be known as the Yard and Garden Renovation of 2010. Two 8x5 raised beds were completed last weekend. Thanks to my lovely parents a load of soil is now sitting in our back yard, to be joined shortly by a load of very healthy compost. Lovely Husband's folks thinned their raspberries so we're planing some of their cast off canes tomorrow and plants, vegetables and herbs will go in this week!

We've been on the hunt for a compost bin. We've shopped around (Home Depot, Portland Nursery, etc) and researched (tumbler vs not) but finally decided on something a little closer to home. Between our very overgrown rhodie and the soon to be remodeled garage there sits a what looks like a black filing cabinet. It's been neglected by us for since we moved in and it looks like it's been neglected long before we bought the house. It's a Scepter Gourmet Garden Backyard Composter and I've decided to adopt it. Whoever is handing out the gold stars for yuppy and green first-time homebuyers, be sure to stop at our house because Casa de Newlyweds is now a household that now regularly composts and uses a second hand compost bin. Composting with a recycled bin! Two gold stars!
